Western Fringe Songwriters Network (WFS)

Western Fringe Songwriters' Network is for all songwriters

WFS Latest News ...

We had our second Western Fringe session for 2012 on Feb 26th, the usual 4.30 to 6.30. It was a great afternoon. We had about ten performers. It was wonderful to see songwriters, Lely K and Bill, from the Blue Mountains there. Young Greg's voice is getting stronger and stronger, he has applied to do a Song Development Day with us - writing his own songs - yee hah! Megan and Matt came by and sang a few songs - their album should be finished soon. There's not enough space to mention everyone who performed, butTtanks to everyone who came along. It's always a pleasure for Snez and myself to see the regulars and meet the new faces.

It was nice to have some walk-in audience who came up because they heard the music - and they stayed! ... we must've sounded okay :)

At the WFS Session, I also announced the new 'Regulars' program. This is a program where each month all attendees to the Western Fringe Session are placed in a 'regulars' database where they will receive special offers such as:

* Discounts and free offers from Soundshed Music and other Music Industry professionals
* Direct access to the Song Development Day
* First option for the upcoming Western Fringe Compilation CD
* Discounts on Graphic Design, Performance Coaching and Songwriter Branding Consultancy from Snez

The 'regulars' database will be revised every couple of months, so only songwriters who have attended recently will quality for the special offers. So if you miss a month, don't worry, you will still be in the database

We are also negotiating with other Industry Professionals who are offering discounts and special offers to WFS regulars

I guess you could say the 'Regulars' program is our way of giving something extra to regular attendees at WFS

Anyway, watch this space for more updates on the WFS Regulars Program - or drop in at the next Session on March 25th to be included in the Regulars Program

What is Western Fringe?

Western Fringe Songwriters' Network is not a club, it's not an organisation, it's not a group, it's an opportunity - an opportunity for Songwriters to meet other songwriters, develop their songs, perform them and record them

What does Western Fringe do?

Western Fringe provides an encouraging, relaxed and supportive atmosphere
for songwriters to create your unique music; to 'sing your song'

We have monthly get togethers in Parramatta in Sydney's west, where you can meet other songwriters, perform your songs, (even 'works-in-progress' are highly encouraged) and access information on anything to do with Songwriting

What does it cost?

Western Fringe is free

Who runs Western Fringe?

Western Fringe is run by songwriters and producers Stewart Peters (that's me!) and Snez

Where?

MARS HILL CAFE

331 Church Street, Parramatta (opposite Brand Smart)

All ages welcome

Who can be involved?

Western Fringe is attended by absolutely anyone who wants to write songs. From beginners to full-time professionals. We have 15years olds to 70 year olds. Under 18 year olds are also welcome: we run the get-togethers in an 'under 18's friendly' venue

What are Stewart Peters' Songwriting and Producing credentials?

Stewart Peters (that's me!) is a multi-award winning songwriter and producer. I have worked with many successful songwriters and various record companies, both large and small, over the past 15 years. Got to the ABOUT US page or CLICK HERE to check out more details about Stewart and Snez and Soundshed Music's Studio

What is the Song Development Day?

The SONG DEVELOPMENT DAY (SDD) is a major part of Western Fringe.
This program is a one day totally free program where selected participants will be offered one-on-one song editing and work-shopping and a fully professional recording of their song.

Great! So the SDD means I get a free demo recorded!

Well, not quite :) The main aim of the SDD is to edit and workshop your song until it is as good as we can make it; so your song communicates the 'truth' that you intended to relate to your audience. And yes, on the same day, when your song is ready we will record a fully professional version of your song - totally for free

My songs are my babies - I don't like people tampering with my songs

Then maybe the SONG DEVELOPMENT DAY is not for you. In my experience I have never heard a developing songwriter's song that didn't need some kind of editing.
Editing makes all the difference between a good song and a great song!
So the SDD is all about working on your song to make it the best we can

Will I have to share copyright of my song with you?

No. You will keep the full 100% ownership of your song's copyright. Not matter what changes I make to your song, I won't claim any copyright. I just want you to get the best out of your songwriting

So, what do I get on the Song Development Day ?

You'll get guidance from me on song lyrics, continuity, melody, chordal and song structure - and a professional recording of your song (including guitars, bass guitar, drums, piano, keyboards and percussion and any vocals). We are also glad to give guidance and advice on marketing and promotion of your music - all totally free

How can I get selected for the Song Development Day?

Send a copy of one or more of your songs to Soundshed Music for consideration
(mp3, CD or even cassette).
The quality doesn't have to be great, it's just to let us hear where you're up to with your songwriting. Preference will be given to writers who haven't had any of their songs released or completed any CD's of their songs or who are not signed to a publisher or recording label

If you don't have a recording of your songs to send us, that's fine. If you're performing at any open mics in the Blue Mountains we will gladly come and have a listen to you

Send your CD, mp3 or cassette to:

Where is Western Fringe based?

Snez and I live in the beautiful Blue Mountains west of Sydney, Australia. But we hold our monthly gatherings in Parramatta in Sydney's mid-Western suburbs.

Our studio facility is also in the Blue Mountains where we live

Recording Opportunities?

We have produced Compilation Albums free for Western Fringe in our Blue Mountains studio.

We regularly produce chosen writers' songs for free in our studio.

At the monthly Western Fringe get togethers, we record each performer and supply mp3's of their recordings for free. I then pick one song randomly from those performances each month and add extra instruments: drums, bass, guitars etc, for free

Check out Soundshed Studios at www.soundshed.com
- half way down that web page you'll see info (and some pics) about the Studio

What other resources can Western Fringe offer?

Through our years of working in the Music Industry at all levels, we can offer access to music professionals for advice and assessment. From publishers, to producers, studios, management, record labels and tutors

Is it all for free? What's the catch?

All the Western Fringe services are free.
No catch - songwriting is a life's passion for Snez and me. For us it's just a matter of us getting a big buzz from 'giving-back' to developing songwriters and seeing their progress
